DOWN SOUTH
REFLECTIONS ON THE UNITED KINGDOM
Down South is an account of life below the poverty line in the United Kingdom, as experienced by the author over the ten years from 2017 to 2026. Working conditions and living conditions will be described in detail, with consideration given to their long term effects and political determinants.
Following an introduction, the first and second part of the book will deal with working conditions (inc social security, self-employment, and employment), and living conditions in turn (inc housing, health and social care, political participation, and leisure). The third part will present edited daily journal entries for the summer half of 2022, month by month, each with a short introduction. These will be published first, serially, starting in 2026.
