My name is Jonathan Oates. I am a British journalist and writer, principally interested in current affairs, world history, and political education.
As Marx recommended, I am working to understand the world and to change it. My understanding draws on my own political experience – in the workplace and the community, including as an organiser – as well as study, outside of, and inside formal settings. As to the latter, I read economics and politics at the University of Bath in the 1990s, returning as a mature student to study international public policy analysis, and being awarded a masters degree with distinction in 2012. I was a fellow of the Schumacher Institute from 2019 to 2024.
Presented on this website are most of my own publications (non fiction) and productions (factual), along with some relevant miscellaneous items. New work will be presented as I complete it. Current projects include development of a weekly newsletter and daily posts on current affairs, and an accompanying guide, along with a small number of non fiction titles, and a cabaret.
