Morning

Up 06 55.

Breakfast : orange juice; coffee; muesli. Dr Hickel pointing to research comparing performance of socialist and capitalist governments or similar. Footage emerged of police arresting members trade unions on picket lines.

Laundry on. Spoke friend.

Elevenses : coffee; madeleines. Spoke friend about paper.

Worked on website. Accepted invitation to barbecue Saturday and play tennis by friend. Hung laundry.

Afternoon

Lunch : fried egg; rice.

Went into town visiting exhibition where friend gave me preview (opening early evening), and then shop for CSR materials. Asked member of staff what made of apparent plans for grants/relief. Colleague suggested announcement distracted from partygate; in contrast, ‘I like Boris,’ she said, saying he had had a lot to deal with and been thrown in at the deep end. ‘What? Eton?’ I said with a smile. ‘Are you sure that’s not the shallow end?’ ‘I don’t listen to politics.’

Home to change for tennis, leaving late and running without warm up to Sydney Gardens to make the booking. Managed to throw phone down the road en route but intact. Played for allotted hour before getting lift back.

Showered and dressed for evening.

Evening

Invited friend along to exhibition, visiting for short while before going to The Bell for an aperitif (courtesy me).

Went back to friend’s apartment for supper.

Supper : sausages; mash (courtesy friend)

Watched Whisky Galore, with a whisky (courtesy friend).
