Morning

Up 07 00. Difficult dream before waking. Coffee in bed. Online.

Breakfast in bed : orange juice; coffee; muesli.

Worked on Letter from England in bed. Thinking both of what need to understand world (‘it is better to be roughly right than precisely wrong’), and how to write about it in a way that is informative and aesthetically satisfactory. Keep rehashing similar things, making similar notes, but that seems to be how I think things through over time.

Elevenses : coffee; madeleines. Dishes; loo. Put laundry on, mixing bedding, towel, clothes (have been doing alternately if irregularly).

Continued working until lunch.

Afternoon

Lunch : fried egg; rice.

Did the laundry at Spruce Goose as usual. Made for Waitrose during cycle to get chick peas but closed for Easter Sunday; hot and bothered. Returned with laundry via Coop branch on Julian Road. Was just considering how difficult must be for staff listening to self-service checkouts at close quarters for the whole of a shift when mine usefully reminded me to take my purchases with me (was about to depart with receipt only). Spread clothes out on bed on return and noticed had forgotten not to include swimming trunks. Looked ok.

Tea : black tea; shortbread.

Evening

Supper : bulgur wheat, onion, potato, and chick pea.

Spoke to a friend.

Online before lights out.
